Since the beginning of 2023, BIRG e.V. has been financially supported by KLS Martin for research funding (BIRG Research Grant), facilitation of internships (BIRG Observership Grant), and participation in international congresses (BIRG Congress Grant). This concept, which was initially planned for three years, fulfills the association's purpose of promoting science, research, and development as well as knowledge transfer and teaching in particular and is very much used by the worldwide community of hand surgeons. Supporting educational and research initiatives in hand surgery has always been a central concern for KLS Martin, too.
With this in mind, the follow-up contract was renewed and signed between BIRG President Dr. Martin Richter (Bonn, Germany), BIRG Vice-President Dr. Alberto Sgarbossa (Brescia, Italy), and KLS Martin Managing Director Mr. Christian Leibinger at the occasion of the international BIRG cadaveric course "All around complex fracture treatment and joint replacement in hand surgery" from December 4 – 6, 2025, in Tuttlingen. The submission of further applications for the BIRG Grants is expressly welcomed, combined with the hope of active participation.
